COURSE DESCRIPTION

8th-grade English refines students’ reading, writing, and analytical skills to prepare them for the rigor of high school. Students engage with challenging literary works, historical documents, and contemporary informational texts, examining themes, tone, and author’s purpose. Lessons emphasize synthesizing information from multiple sources, identifying bias, and evaluating the strength of arguments. Writing instruction focuses on producing high-quality argumentative essays, literary analyses, research reports, and narratives with advanced organization and style. Grammar lessons address complex sentence construction, precise word choice, and advanced punctuation rules. Speaking and listening work includes formal presentations, Socratic seminars, and collaborative projects.

ASSESSMENTS

Students complete regular comprehension assessments, vocabulary applications, and multi-draft writing projects to measure proficiency.
