COURSE DESCRIPTION

6th grade English marks the transition to middle school language arts, with a focus on deeper text analysis, more complex writing, and stronger communication skills. Students read and interpret a variety of literary genres and informational texts, identifying themes, points of view, and text structures. Lessons emphasize citing textual evidence, comparing multiple texts, and analyzing how authors develop ideas. Writing instruction covers argumentative, narrative, and expository essays, incorporating research, organization, and revision skills. Grammar study includes advanced punctuation, complex sentence construction, and proper verb usage.
