5th grade science helps students connect scientific concepts to the world around them. Lessons encourage critical thinking, accurate observation, and clear communication of findings. Our program prepares students for the deeper investigations of middle school science.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
5th grade science expands on earlier concepts while introducing more detailed study of life, physical, and earth sciences. Students explore matter and its properties, changes in states, and mixtures and solutions. Life science units cover body systems, plant processes, and interdependence in ecosystems. Earth science topics include the solar system, weather prediction, and natural resources. Students also learn how to plan controlled experiments and interpret scientific data from tables and graphs.
ASSESSMENTS
Quizzes, written explanations, and lab activities assess both conceptual understanding and experimental skills. Students receive feedback to strengthen their use of scientific vocabulary and accuracy in data representation.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Classify matter by its physical properties.
- Explain changes in states of matter.
- Describe the role of the Sun, Earth, and Moon in the solar system.
- Understand the basic functions of major body systems.
- Analyze simple data sets from experiments.
- Demonstrate how humans use and conserve natural resources.
